Neel Ranjan Mukherjee, a prime disciple of legendary Sitar maestro Pandit Debu Chaudhuri “Padmabhushan Awardee”, is the only artist playing Indian classical music on the traditional Hawaiian Guitar for over two decades. At the age of 9 years, he had started his initial training on Hawaiian Guitar under the able guidance of eminent Guitar artist Dr. Shiv Nath Bhattacharya and his maternal uncle Sitar Maestro Dr. Dyuti Kishore Acharyya Chowdhury for 4 years. He has been accepted by Pt. Debu ji under Guru - Shishya Parampara (Teacher to Student tradition) in the year 1995. Neel enthralls his audience with 7 (seven) main strings & 4 (four) octaves without adding any extra strings like sympathetic or drone in it, which is a rare artistic marvel. His inherent musical instinct, intuition and imagination and his natural perceptiveness of the melody of the Raagas and limitless guidance of his guru made him the finest musician of the present era. Being trained under the strict discipline of Senia Jaipur Gharana, Neel is a traditionalist but his style of presentation illustrates his own brilliance & always leaves a lasting impression on the audience's hearts. His music carries the message of his cyclopedic knowledge of Indian classical music and his own individuality. His tuneful sparkling fingers depict both Tantakari (instrumental) & Gayaki (vocal) style. Apart from his excellence in performances, Neel has successfully trained a number of students on Hawaiian guitar, Santoor, Sitar and Piano across the country, who are now performing successfully in India and abroad. Recipient of Prabhakar degree from Prayag Sangeet Samiti and Sangeet Shiromani from University of Delhi, Neel Ranjan has performed in many prestigious festivals in India and abroad and has represented Delhi in a number of occasions including National Youth Festival organized by the state government of Kerala & Jharkhand, State Youth Festival, Delhi, organized by the Sahitya Kala Parishad, (government of National Capital Territory of Delhi).
